The Senior Product Manager (SPM) at Mercans owns the vision, strategy, and execution of key modules within the global payroll SaaS platform. The role is responsible for delivering scalable, compliant, and differentiated product capabilities that align with business objectives, customer needs, and regulatory requirements, supporting Mercans global growth and market leadership.
As a senior leader, the SPM drives product‑led growth by translating strategy into execution, owning roadmaps end to end, and collaborating closely with Engineering, Compliance, Operations, Customer Success, Business Development, and Support teams.
Responsibilities- Own product vision, roadmap, and lifecycle for assigned domains.
- Translate business and compliance needs into epics, features, and backlog items with clear acceptance criteria.
- Lead delivery from discovery through release, ensuring quality, adoption readiness, and continuous improvement.
- Analyze market trends, competitors, customer feedback, and emerging technologies.
- Define innovative features and clear USPs that strengthen Mercans competitive positioning.
- Partner with Marketing and Commercial teams on positioning and differentiation.
- Own the strategic roadmap for the global payroll engine, ensuring scalability, multi‑country support, and statutory compliance.
- Define payroll logic for gross‑to‑net calculations, multi‑currency processing, statutory deductions, retro activity, auditability, and reconciliation.
- Partner with Compliance to embed automated, country‑specific statutory rules.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Data teams to deliver AI / ML‑driven capabilities such as anomaly detection and predictive variance.
- Drive modernization by transitioning hard‑coded logic into configurable, version‑controlled rule engines.
- Define API‑first architectures enabling integration with HR, time, finance, and ERP systems.
- Champion modular, configurable platform design for enterprise, mid‑market, and multi‑tenant use cases.
- Define reusable components, templates, and feature toggles to accelerate deployments.
- Enable white‑label, reseller, and partner models through APIs, toolkits, and documentation.
- Partner with Customer Success on onboarding, adoption, QBRs, and escalations.
- Align product capabilities with implementation and support workflows to reduce manual effort and errors.
- Deliver self‑service and internal tooling to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead structured change management for releases, compliance updates, and high‑impact enhancements.
- Ensure statutory compliance across all supported jurisdictions and maintain audit‑ready documentation.
- Embed secure‑by‑design practices including access controls, encryption, data retention, and audit trails.
- Define and track success metrics such as adoption, usage, retention, efficiency gains, and cost savings.
- Use KPIs to drive roadmap prioritization and continuous improvement.
- Improve delivery processes including backlog hygiene, sprint cadence, and cross‑team communication.
- Mentor junior product managers and promote strong ownership, documentation, and customer empathy.
- Support structured innovation intake and prioritization.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- 10+ years of B2B SaaS product management experience, including 5+ years in senior roles.
- 3+ years of experience in payroll software or payroll SaaS.
- Strong knowledge of global payroll processes, compliance, APIs, integrations, and Agile delivery.
- Master's degree (MBA / MS).
- Experience with payroll rule engines, compliance automation, GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2.
- Experience with monetization strategies, white‑label SaaS, and partner ecosystems.
- Relevant product or project management certifications.
