Role Purpose

As a Court of Protection Advisor, you will work within the Court of Protection team in the Private Client Department, supporting the management of financial and personal affairs for individuals who lack capacity to make decisions for themselves.

The role involves providing organised and compassionate support across a range of Court of Protection matters. You will work closely with colleagues, clients, families and external stakeholders to help ensure matters are progressed sensitively, efficiently and in line with legal and regulatory requirements, often in circumstances involving vulnerable individuals.

We welcome applications from candidates with a range of relevant experience. This may include experience gained in legal support roles or in client focused environments such as financial services, health, social care, local authority or advisory settings. Prior Court of Protection experience is welcome but not essential, and full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities Client and Stakeholder Support
  • Liaise with vulnerable clients, family members and other third parties with sensitivity and professionalism.
Court of Protection and Case Administration
  • Prepare court applications and related documents for the Court of Protection.
  • Draft and submit annual reports to the Office of the Public Guardian.
  • Compile court bundles for hearings and communicate confidently with parties involved in proceedings.
Financial and Record Management
  • Process client invoices and arrange payment following approval.
  • Monitor cash balances in client and deputyship accounts.
  • Track income and expenditure for deputyship clients.
  • Keep accurate records of files, payments, decisions and court orders.
  • Prepare files for external costs review, ensuring file notes align with financial data.
Team and Process Support
  • Support the team in developing and improving systems for the administration of complex deputyships.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and oversight of administrative processes and systems, ensuring consistency and compliance.

  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Court of Protection Rules is desirable but other relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience working in a legal environment and/or with vulnerable clients.
  • Experience of supervising or overseeing work to ensure accuracy and consistency within agreed processes.
Technical Knowledge
  • Proficient in using Microsoft 365 applications to organise tasks, manage time effectively and support collaborative working (essential). (A/I)
