Job Summary
Wychbury Medical Group is looking for a dedicated Practice Nurse to join our team at our busy practice. This post is in General Practice for 30‑37 hours per week, to be agreed at appointment, depending on experience and service needs. The role includes extended hours cover with a requirement to work until 8 pm on Thursdays. Join a well‑established nursing team of six practice nurses plus two nurse associates and one healthcare assistant.
We care for 22,000 patients across three surgery sites, with some home visits required.
- Provide assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice.
- Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.
- Provide general and specific chronic disease management to patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to GPs as necessary.
- Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.
- Perform cytology, wound care/ulcer care/Doppler, removal of sutures, travel advice and vaccines, ECGs, venepuncture, ear irrigation, routine and childhood immunisations.
- Chaperone and assist patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
- Assist GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings, request pathology tests, follow agreed clinical protocols.
- Maintain and clean equipment and nursing rooms, stock and rotate items, ensure accurate records, advise senior nurse of potential problems.
- Attend and participate in practice meetings, undertake home visits, and any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
- Collection, storage and dispatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears, etc.
- Assist in administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.
- Participation in research projects, student/staff education, liaison with other agencies, and professional development activities.
Maintain continued professional education through attendance at courses and study days; assist in promoting and maintaining health and safety, use personal security systems, identify risks, report potential hazards, and comply with infection control procedures.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential- Registered general nurse.
- Understanding of clinical governance.
- Knowledge of NHS Standards of Practice (NSF).
- Qualified in long‑term conditions management.
- Experience in respiratory management.
- Experience of working as a practice nurse.
- Experience in wound care and childhood immunisations.
- Experience of managing long‑term conditions.
- Experience of working as a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- IT literate.
- Ability to adapt to change.
- Ability to use own initiative.
- Enthusiasm and motivation.
- Flexibility.
