  Our state-of-the-art education centre is fully equipped with a clinical skills lab and observation room. We host weekly journal clubs, educational talks, and are accredited for basic level training in Intensive Care Medicine.

You will join a team of 15 Consultants, 6 Specialty Doctors, and 5 trainees, providing high-quality anaesthetic services across our region. While the out-of-hours commitment requires ability in Intensive Care, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics, this post has a significant daytime commitment to Intensive Care.

• Your Plan, Your Way: A detailed job plan will be negotiated with you upon appointment. While this post does not have to include routine daytime Intensive Care sessions, we can accommodate a variety of other sub-specialty interests.
• On-Call with Confidence:
  Competence across Intensive Care, Obstetrics, and Paediatrics is required for participation in the on-call rota. However, you are never alone; our on-call system ensures two consultants are on call at all times (a second and third on-call). This provides robust support, ensuring a colleague is always available to help with challenging cases, be it a complex ICU patient or a sick child.
• Hours to Suit You:
  The standard contract is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, but up to 2 additional PAs may be offered. We are very happy to discuss part-time and flexible working arrangements.
• Manageable Rota:
  The on-call rota is currently 1:6 with prospective cover and is non-resident. Following a night on call, you are allocated time off the next day to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

The Department of Anaesthetics is located on the first floor of the new DGRI, adjacent to both the Critical Care Unit and the main theatre complex.

• Operating Theatres: A modern suite of 8 operating theatres and 4 endoscopy/minor procedure rooms, equipped to a high standard with videolaryngoscopes in each theatre and readily available ultrasound facilities for regional anaesthesia.
• Critical Care Unit: A 16-bed combined ICU/HDU with all individual rooms, designed to maximise natural light and provide views of the surrounding countryside. The unit is well-equipped and participates actively in audit and multi-centre research.
• Excellent Support:
  The department is well-supported by an established Acute Pain Service, a multi-disciplinary Chronic Pain Service, and provides support to the regional Emergency Department and Cresswell Maternity Wing.

• You must hold full GMC registration with a license to practice and be on the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia (or be eligible for entry within 6 months).
• You will have broad competence across anaesthesia, with specific experience in Critical Care, Obstetrics, and Paediatrics to meet the demands of the on-call rota.
• You should have experience in clinical teaching and a commitment to audit and clinical governance.
