Year 1 £ 15,974;
Year 2 £ 22,857;
Year 3 £ 25,728;

- Gain experience in routine and reactive maintenance of automated systems and CNC machines.
- Work with mechanical and electrical subsystems, including PLCs, soft start & inverter drives, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose faults, support repairs and upgrades, and respond to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, performance and safety.
- Develop expertise in machine alignment, positional offsets, precision setup, and sensor feedback.
- Balance on-site practical engineering with collaboration across multiple technical disciplines.
You’ll attend college and receive on-site training. Time allocation (approximate):
Year 1 at Fife College (full-time);
Years 2–4 primarily at work with Year 3 combining college as needed; final year focuses on logbooks and qualification requirements. Upon successful completion, you’ll gain a Modern Apprenticeship Qualification at SCQF Level 7 in Engineering – Asset Lifecycle and Maintenance.
Potential career progression within Babcock via the Role Framework with clear pathways. Opportunity to pursue an HNC in a related field after completion.
What You’ll Need- A minimum of 4 National 5s including Maths at grade B and Physics, English and a Technical/Science Subject at grade C or above.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, collaborate, and genuine interest in the subject.
- Ability to follow instructions, plan work with safety as a priority.
- Ability to work well in a team and show respect to colleagues, customers, and supervisors.
