Job Overview
The 3‑year Digital Manufacturing Apprenticeship offers future‑oriented work in shipbuilding and advanced engineering. You will learn how digital technology and manufacturing innovation combine to deliver world‑class defence and marine projects.
Programme DetailsAs a Digital Manufacturing Apprentice, you will work with experienced engineers integrating digital tools, robotics and automation into production processes, contributing to projects such as the Type 31 frigate and the Queen Elizabeth Class carrier maintenance work.
- Use CAD/CAM systems and integrate them with CNC and robotic technologies.
- Participate in fault finding, systems integration, planning, NC programming, Python programming, data analytics and continuous improvement.
- Develop knowledge of marine engineering fundamentals, control and automation systems, electrical and mechanical systems, health and safety practices, and project management.
- Gain skills in problem solving, technical analysis and validation, communication, and the use of digital tools and engineering software.
You will study with Fife College, working towards an HNC in Mechanical Engineering and a Diploma in Engineering and Digital Manufacturing. During the first year you will spend two days at college and two days onsite each week, building a strong foundation in mechanical and digital manufacturing principles. As the programme progresses, you will spend more time on live projects applying what you have learned.

By the end of the programme you will be prepared for roles in Systems Integration, Production Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing Engineering or Design. Upon completion you can expect a competitive salary exceeding £41,000 and opportunities for higher‑level qualifications and ongoing professional training.
EligibilityQualifications:
two Highers at grades C or above, including Maths at grade B (Foundation Apprenticeships are accepted as one Higher at grade
B). Many apprenticeship programmes require Security Clearance and Trade Control, which may affect eligibility.
