Jackson Hogg are proudly supporting a specialist heavy engineering business in the County Durham area, with the appointment of a Quality Manager position.
The Quality Manager will have a team of x10 reports and will report into the Site Director.
Quality Manager Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the Quality Department, developing a high-performing and accountable team culture.
* Maintain and continuously improve the company’s QMS in line with ISO 9001 accreditation.
* Lead internal and external audits, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions.
* Control traceability and certification, ensuring certificates of testing and conformity accurately reflect product data.
* Support supplier quality management, including onboarding assessments and ongoing audit.
* Champion continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, improve yield, and enhance process efficiency.
* Collaborate with production, engineering, and customers to resolve quality issues and ensure full compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
* Provide training, mentorship, and development opportunities for quality staff, apprentices and trainees.
Quality Manager Requirements
* Proven experience as a Quality Manager within a heavy manufacturing or engineering environment.
* Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (lead auditor preferred).
* Hands-on understanding of relevant industrial testing and inspection processes.
* Demonstrable experience managing and developing multidisciplinary quality teams.
* Competent in root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, statistical process control and continuous improvement methodologies.
* Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills, with a methodical and practical approach.
* Formal engineering or quality-related qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) preferred.
* Proactive and quality-driven, with a passion for improvement.
* Detail-oriented and technically precise.
* Effective leader who builds confidence and accountability within teams.
* Hands-on and pragmatic, with strong problem-solving ability.
* Committed to maintaining the highest standards of compliance and product integrity
