Batch Man

The Batch Man is responsible for the accurate, efficient, and safe batching of concrete at a high-performance ready-mix plant. This role requires an operator who is already competent and experienced; the client will not provide training. The successful candidate must be able to step into a live production environment immediately and operate independently.

Key Responsibilities

Batching Operations

• Operate the batching plant to produce concrete according to mix designs and customer requirements.
• Accurately weigh and measure materials (cement, aggregates, water, admixtures).
• Continuously monitor mix quality and make on-the-fly adjustments.
• Coordinate the batching sequence and dispatch schedule with ready-mix truck drivers.

Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance

• Conduct daily inspections of plant equipment and identify issues early.
• Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping of batching equipment.
• Report breakdowns and assist in troubleshooting where needed.
• Support preventive maintenance plans to reduce downtime.

Quality Control & Documentation

• Maintain accurate batching records, mix logs, and shift reports.
• Conduct quality checks such as slump testing and sample monitoring.
• Communicate with the quality control team to address non-conformances.
• Ensure all mixes meet the required technical and safety standards.

Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping

• Strictly follow health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Maintain a clean, hazard-free work area.
• Attend safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
• Ensure correct PPE usage at all times.

Communication & Coordination

• Use plant communication systems, including two-way radios and internal comms, to manage batching flow.
• Relay clear instructions to drivers, supervisors, and support teams.
• Maintain professional, calm communication during high-volume production.

Required Experience & Attributes (Non-Negotiable)

• Proven experience batching concrete no training provided.
• Previous hands-on exposure to ready-mix batching operations is essential.
• Ability to operate batching software and computerized controls.
• Understanding of mix design principles, moisture correction, and slump management.
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-demand production environments.
• Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
• Mechanically minded with basic troubleshooting ability.
• Ability to work shifts and extended hours when required.
