Would you like to join Edinburgh's Strategic Transport Planning and Delivery team to help in the configuration, development and implementation of the Council's flagship public realm projects and public transport schemes.

Our programme is a major component of Edinburgh's City Mobility Plan  and its accompanying Capital Investment Programme. These aim to transform place and travel over the next decade to deliver a healthier, thriving, fairer and compact capital city, and a higher quality of life for all residents, as we transition to a zero‑carbon future.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to undertake this challenging but highly rewarding role. The role will be responsible for helping deliver public realm and transport projects as detailed in our City Centre Transformation Strategy and City Mobility Plan, therefore experience of project management is essential. The role will also help to develop transport strategy, policies and plans, therefore the candidate must have experience in Transport Planning and/or Urban Design.

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or have experience of managing and delivering significantly complex projects in a challenging environment, preferably within a transport or infrastructure setting. It is also highly desirable that the applicant holds a formal project management qualification (e.g. Prince
2).

The candidate will be part of a team supporting the delivering public realm projects and public transport schemes projects. Projects include George Street and First New Town, St Andrews Square and Bus Priority schemes. The projects generally follow the RIBA plan of work stages.

You should have:

  • a relevant degree and relevant experience
  • project management experience, preferably involving delivery of similar projects
  • knowledge of the issues, opportunities and problems associated with delivering urban based projects
  • effective interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement

It is also essential the post holder has strong communication skills and the ability to build key relationships, including those at senior management and elected member level. Essential partnership working is critical to the role.

Further information on the minimum job requirements is provided in the attached Job Description.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page:
Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Happy to talk flexible working.
