This is a wonderful opportunity to join my client, a sustainably-minded, industry-leading Multidisciplinary Consultancy, dedicated to broadening their geographical reach by establishing a new office location in Scotland. Renowned for lending their expertise to a diverse range of projects across the landscape architecture, planning, and civil engineering fields, they are actively seeking a capable, passionate Principal Civil Engineer with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design who is willing to win, manage, and successfully deliver a number of challenging projects.

You will have a hand in building and leading a newly-established team of design engineers, based in the picturesque, cultural Scottish Capital City of Edinburgh.

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

Delivering a number of exciting projects and developments
Leading the day-to-day running of projects, from initial inception through to successful delivery and implementation
Mentoring and supporting colleagues throughout their careers, overseeing their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Managing important professional relations with clients and other stakeholders, across the public and private sectors
Preparing, checking, and submitting technical documents, including reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, risk assessments, and method statements
Enforcing company policies, procedures, and best practice
Upholding the appropriate health and safety standards at all times
Contributing to the company's business development strategies, acting as a trusted representative at client meetings, site visits, etc.

Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

A UK Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
Possess Chartered Status with a recognised Professional Body (e.g., ICE)
Extensive experience of working in a design role, within a UK-based consultancy setting
Demonstrable experience of working with infrastructure (particularly drainage and highways), housing developments, and energy projects

Experience of earthworks design and drainage network modelling
Proficient in the use of various software packages (including Civils 3D, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, etc.)
Considerable experience of writing, checking, and amending technical documents for submission
Prior experience of leading both projects and people within the sector

Experience of managing client and stakeholder relations
Outstanding organisation, time management, team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Hold a full, valid UK driving licence

Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

A UK Master's Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering (or similar, relevant discipline)

Experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments

Experience of preparing Transport Assessments

Experience of working in a public-facing role
