About the RoleAt Leonardo, we have an opportunity for a Test Equipment Technician. Leonardo is a global high‑tech company and one of the key players in Aerospace, Defence and Security. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infra‑red counter‑measure systems.
You will be joining Leonardo’s Electronics Division and will provide engineering support to the Support and Services Solutions (CS3) business unit and the Product Support Group (PSG). The role involves ensuring that calibration, repair, maintenance and safety testing activities are completed in a manner that maximises availability of the equipment in the Production Halls and Engineering Labs.
Responsibilities- Calibrate, repair, maintain and test Test Equipment, including Laser, Radar, MEG and Mechanical Calibration activities for PSG Test Equipment support.
- Optimise periodicity of calibration and maintenance operations, identify and eliminate pattern faults to drive down repair costs.
- Develop effective asset management through close working relationships with external partners and suppliers.
- Provide updates on PSG activities to production meetings, reporting on WIP and pending items impacting Test Station down time.
- Achieve effective maintenance and successful closure of technical issues in collaboration with Test Equipment Design Authorities, Manufacturing Hall Supervisors and Equipment Operators.
- HNC/HND in Electronic Engineering with experience fault finding complex electronic systems and PC controllers.
- Experience in Accurate Measurement, Calibration & Metrology (advantageous but not essential).
- Knowledge of RF test equipment, PC hardware architectures and PC troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience in Production Hall or Lab environments with general purpose and special‑to‑type test equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with basic P.S.U., electronic circuitry (TTL/CMOS logic), pulse & signal generators, analog & digital oscilloscopes, digital multimeters.
- Knowledge of DOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Basic proficiency with software such as Word, Excel, and optionally HP Basic.
- Good communication skills and the ability to prioritise workload and manage cost awareness.
This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, including eligibility for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
