HSE Officer - Heysham 2

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract until 31/10/2026

Start Date: Immediate, pending CTC clearance

Salary: £23.38ph + £1.50ph site bonus

Role Details

We are currently looking for a HSE Officer to join our team at Heysham 2. A key function of the Site Safety Officer is to ensure sites are compliant with AIMS Procedures and legal requirements by undertaking inspections in accordance with Company Procedures and reporting findings to the Regional HSE Manager and Site Management. To advise sites in HSEQ matters affecting their operations.

The Site Safety Advisor is a key communication point between the Regional HSE Manager and site operations, maintaining autonomy to give impartial advice and report unbiased facts to the Regional HSE Manager and site management teams.

Suitable candidates must be willing to undergo CTC clearance or be CTC cleared already.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • To collaborate with HSEQ and Operations Teams, assessing and responding to site needs and issues, ensuring the issues are dealt with as appropriate.
  • To engage with Altrad internal and external Customers to ensure sites are familiar with Altrad Procedures and Clients requirements alike.
  • To ensure compliance with AIMS procedures on site including assistance with Risk Assessments and Method Statements when required.
  • Conduct daily walk rounds of the site to ensure all personnel are working to a defined risk assessment and operating in accordance with AIMS procedures, and identify training requirements on site and alleviate.
  • Complete HSEQ site audits twice weekly.
  • All actions from audits, inspections, and safety tours regardless of whether sorted out at time entered on to MyOSH.
  • Collate all actions on a monthly basis and elevate appropriately if not closed out.
  • Assist with critical training, authorised by the HSEQ Manager, as and when required.
  • Advise and assist in accident investigation alongside the delegated person as required by AIMS procedure.
  • Attend critical client safety meetings.
  • Carry out drug and alcohol testing as and when required.
  • Attend the safety coordinator’s meetings.
  • Involve in the Altrad behavioural safety scheme, giving coaching to operatives on a daily basis to eliminate unsafe acts.
  • Provide advice and guidance in the compilation of specific risk assessment and method statements for tasks where there is an added element of danger or where we have not completed the type of task before.
Experience Required
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people.
  • Working knowledge of the Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Experience of interactions with Regulators, presenting and hosting Site visits.
  • Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the construction or nuclear industry.
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
  • An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail.
  • Ideally experience of Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Scaffolding & Coatings.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Sound knowledge of HSEQ legislation, industry and best‑practice standards and their relevance to the UK Business.
