Be part of building Scotland’s future

At Scottish Enterprise, we support Scotland’s most ambitious companies to innovate, scale, and help transform the economy.

The next decade brings both major challenges and extraordinary opportunities. To meet them, we’re focused on three bold missions:

  • Building a globally competitive energy transition industry
  • Scaling Scotland’s innovation strengths into the high-growth sectors of the future
  • Unlocking capital investment to boost productivity and create high-value jobs

Against this backdrop, we’re transforming how we work – including how our finance systems and processes support the organisation. That’s where this role comes in.

This is an exciting opportunity to take the next step in your career in our Finance Directorate. Leading a small, supportive team, you’ll play an important part in our finance transformation as we roll out a new system.

Your bookkeeping experience will help shape new ways of working, strengthen the team’s capability, and drive positive change across the wider finance function.

The role

As part of the Finance Centre team, you’ll use your bookkeeping and accounting expertise to deliver our banking and accounts receivable services.

The role also includes managing balance sheet accounts up to trial balance level, drawing on your professional judgement to ensure accuracy, consistency, and high-quality financial information.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting a small team through coaching, development, workload supervision, and performance appraisals
  • Overseeing financial processing and controls across:
    • Accounts receivable – guaranteeing accurate posting of transactions and managing the debt recovery process
    • Banking – recording income and expenditure, completing bank reconciliations, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting
    • General ledger – preparing and posting journals accurately, including those for specialised transactions (such as outsourced services, equity, and loan activity), reconciling specific balance sheet codes to trial balance level, and providing information for auditors
  • Producing and managing reports for areas including outsourced services and equity and loan transactions
Who we're looking for

You’ll bring strong technical bookkeeping knowledge, with experience across general ledger and accounts receivable functions, reconciliations, and journal preparation. Leadership is just as important – you should be confident managing, coaching and developing a small team.

Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to problem solving will help you thrive in this role, along with the ability to adapt as systems and processes evolve.

Your skills and experience should include:

  • Qualifications, or equivalent skills and experience, in a finance or accounting subject at SCQF Level 8 (such as Higher National Diploma or Advanced Diploma)
  • A high level of understanding of the bookkeeping entries required for a range of financial transactions
  • Experience reconciling a variety of balance sheet control accounts
  • Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring a small team

Although not essential, ideally you’ll also have:

  • A professional accounting qualification — or be working towards one — from a recognised body (for example ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA, CIPFA, or ACCA)
  • Experience working in a public sector finance team
  • Experience supporting or implementing a finance system

Further information on the role can be found in the attached role profile.
