Finance Assistant (Legal Cashier)

What You’ll Be Doing- Allocating and processing daily bank receipts across client and office accounts
- Setting up and reviewing electronic payments (including CHAPS, BACS, Fast Pay and international payments), ensuring all regulatory and AML requirements are met
- Processing a wide range of financial transactions within the financial management system, including payments, receipts, transfers, bill payments, disbursements and bulk uploads
- Managing the opening, closing and day-to-day activity of designated client bank accounts
- Reviewing and processing cheque requests in line with internal authorisation policies and timescales
- Investigating and resolving items identified through daily bank reconciliations, including unmatched transactions and aged cheques
- Working closely with senior stakeholders and internal teams to support client and firm transactions
- Preparing and submitting regular cheque and cash banking
- Running monthly client account interest calculations and ad-hoc interest calculations when required
- Maintaining accurate electronic filing of all working documentation to ensure audit readiness
- Supporting the finance team during the annual audit cycle
- Attending team meetings, contributing to process improvements and helping keep procedures up to date
- Assisting with ad-hoc duties to support the wider Cashroom function
- Previous experience in a high-volume legal cashiering or transactional finance role
- A strong understanding of regulatory requirements, with knowledge of relevant accounts rules and AML principles advantageous
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Confident communicator, comfortable working with a range of stakeholders
- Organised, reliable and able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive, flexible team player with a positive “can-do” attitude
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
- Confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with practice management systems is beneficial but not essential
