Primary Care Research Delivery Team, NHS Lothian

Senior Research Nurse, Band 6

With effect from 01 April 2026, NHS Scotland is reducing its full-time working week from 37 to 36 hours per week, with no change in full-time pay. An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced nurses to join the Primary Care Research Delivery Team within NHS Lothian. This is part of a new service supporting General Practice in developing a clinical trials portfolio.

This is a Lothian-wide post, initially based in Midlothian. As the service grows, you may be required to travel to other sites across the region.

Clinical Research Nursing offers a unique and rewarding career path, enabling you to apply your clinical knowledge and skills to advance healthcare through research. You will contribute to the development of new evidence, treatments, and care pathways, with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes both now and in the future.

The post-holders will be responsible for the management and delivery of a portfolio of studies within primary care settings. This includes commercial and non-commercial trials and will involve trials of investigational medicinal products. You will work closely with GP practices and community-based teams to ensure successful study delivery. Responsibilities include supporting recruitment, obtaining informed consent, conducting clinical assessments, and ensuring accurate data collection, while maintaining patient safety in line with clinical trial regulations, research governance, and ICH Good Clinical Practice.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing specialist advice, support, and guidance to colleagues.

You will work closely with our patient community and collaborate with Investigators, Research Network Managers, and Clinical Teams across a variety of settings, including GP practices and community clinics. The role will also involve developing innovative strategies to meet recruitment targets and timelines.

You must be registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 or RNA of the UK NMC Register.

Please note:

Part-time hours the salary will be pro-rata.
