Equans is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join our team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital on a permanent basis. This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary of £27,000 per annum plus an excellent shift allowance and benefits package. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in operating and maintaining the physical environment essential for delivering safe and effective healthcare to patients.
This includes maintaining building fabric, fittings, fixtures, and engineering services such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, and piped medical gases.
- Operate and maintain building fabric and services including external/internal finishes, plumbing, electrical and mechanical services, and medical gas systems.
- Comply with all statutory safety and operational requirements alongside HTM and SHTM standards.
- Participate actively in planned maintenance schemes; perform repairs and general maintenance on plant and non‑medical equipment.
- Under supervision, conduct planned preventive maintenance inspections, commissioning, and testing in accordance with published procedures.
- Complete all necessary documentation including report sheets, test certificates, risk assessments, and mark‑ups of drawing alterations.
- Use relevant tools and equipment safely adhering to Equans’ safety guidelines (Risk Assessment, Site Safety, Fire Safety, Control of Infection, Hazardous Substances).
- Carry out emergency repairs as required, including possible overtime.
- Undertake training for new technologies and methods to maintain competence.
- Monitor building services and report defects to the Technical Supervisor promptly.
- Provide feedback on preventive maintenance and fire safety issues.
- Ensure service delivery meets contract KPIs and communicate effectively with clinical wards and departments regarding planned and reactive works.
- Maintain compliance with statutory regulations including CDM, Good Practice, and internal procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Report all accidents, incidents, defects, and near misses per Equans procedures.
