Senior Ornithologist – SLR Consulting
SLR Consulting offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ornithologist to join its busy established team and help deliver renewable energy projects across Scotland.
Role OverviewThe role will be based with either the Glasgow or Newcastle onshore ornithology teams, with flexibility around location and hybrid working. The core of the role is desk‑based and client‑facing, with some survey work.
Responsibilities- Project management, coordination and delivery of ornithological projects.
- Client, landowner and stakeholder liaison.
- Preparing and supporting tender submissions.
- Managing delivery of various types of ornithology surveys (various survey methodologies).
- Data analysis and presentation, desk‑based study and collating relevant data.
- Preparation of various types of ornithological reports.
- Supporting the UK ecology team in delivering tenders, providing technical advice to clients and colleagues.
- Degree in Ecology, Biological Science or equivalent (MSc desirable) or equivalent professional experience.
- Membership of CIEEM or equivalent beneficial.
- Strong bird identification skills and experience of ornithology survey techniques.
- Knowledge of ornithological sensitivities related to onshore renewables; experience of EIA and/or HRA beneficial.
- Experience in project management and managing a diverse workload.
- Proactive, flexible approach to work.
- Understanding of scientific data collection methods and accurate data recording.
- Strong Word and Excel skills; GIS experience beneficial.
- Ability to produce high‑quality reports.
- Health and Safety experience around risk assessments beneficial.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
