Senior Software Engineer - Android

THE POSITION

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Android / React Native) to join our Sports book engineering team. You’ll be working on foundational engineering, focusing on improving the underlying frameworks, tooling, and performance that enable Fan Duel to deliver an exciting and innovative customer experience.

Working with our React Native Sports book application, you’ll build and optimize select native Android components while also enhancing the core React Native codebase to improve performance and scalability.

We’re looking for skilled engineers who are empathetic communicators with a commitment to continuous improvement and engineering excellence. The ideal candidate will have experience with both React Native and native Android development, able to propose pragmatic solutions for performance optimization, work collaboratively within our technical vision, and contribute to our culture of continuous learning. As a member of this team, you will strengthen the foundations of our mobile platform, enabling Fan Duel engineers to deliver features more effectively while maintaining platform quality and best practices.

• Developing and maintaining native Android components to support computationally intensive or performance-critical features
• Enhancing the core React Native codebase for the Sports book app, focusing on performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Profiling and optimizing app startup and runtime performance across both React Native and native layers
• Breaking down engineering work into incremental, testable deliveries aligned with team priorities
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives that raise quality and developer effectiveness within the domain
• Joining our on-call rota, sharing out of hours support duties as part of our incident response process

• Significant experience delivering production React Native applications
• Proficiency in Android development with Kotlin, including bridging React Native with native modules
• Knowledge of mobile performance profiling and optimization techniques (startup time, rendering, memory, etc.) especially on the native side
• Familiarity with mobile development best practices, testing, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working in Agile teams and contributing to collaborative technical standards
• A quality-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate trade-offs

• Contribute meaningfully to technical design discussions and propose pragmatic solutions
• Take ownership of delivering performance improvements and shared components end to end
• Mentor and support other engineers in bridging/native usage and performance considerations
• Participate in wider engineering community initiatives and help spread best practices
