Position: Technical Supervisor - Salvage (OEM Remanufacturing)

Description

:
  • Improve remanufacturing efficiency, cost, product quality, and worker safety by analyzing current methods, new methods, new technologies and cost reduction activities

  • Support and lead working with Product Support and Production to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives related to product cost and production efficiencies

  • Exercise final authority for the implementation of technical specifications

  • Interact with Caterpillar, Customers and End Users to be on the leading edge of changes that could impact OEM or their customers

  • Participate in OEM, Customer or supplier conference calls, tests or product improvement initiatives when required

  • Manage the technical service requirements of supporting documentation and product cost models

  • Based on product forecasts and Customer requests, ensure that timelines are met to coincide with physical receipt with the components

  • Establish Salvage labour standards and ensure required salvage operations are in place

  • Transition new products into regular production through the validation of the Salvage Operations documents and build procedures

  • Based upon agreed-to Documentation Strategy, assist in the development of necessary SOP’s, Checklists and Instructions to ensure the quality and efficiency of component part remanufacturing

  • Using extensive product knowledge and thorough understanding of OEM and Caterpillar warranty policies, establish a rigorous and formal process to identify and report on root cause of failure

  • Provide adequate and timely feedback from failure analyses to process stakeholders and ensure deficiencies requiring corrective action are identified and addressed in an appropriate manner

  • Ensure that all staff-prepared warranty reports meet benchmarks for technical accuracy and that the disposition of the claims, based on parts and labour categorizations, is correct. Ensure evidence gathered is collected and presented in a suitable manner

  • Ensure warranty and reliability data is accurately collected for use in ongoing statistical analysis.

  • Set clear direction and engaging objectives for the Salvage team while ensuring effective management of individual workloads in accordance with business needs

  • Evaluate direct staff performance and recommend salary adjustments that reflect individual contributions

  • Provide coaching and career path planning

  • Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer in good standing with professional certifying body; and or currently pursuing final certification will be considered a critical asset

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing or technical service position with demonstrated ability to direct and engage team members

  • Minimum 5 years direct supervisory experience

  • Outstanding technical knowledge of Caterpillar engines, powertrain and hydraulics in equipment

  • Expert knowledge of the failure analysis process and root cause determination

  • Experience Caterpillar quality management systems such as PSCRM, SIMSi, etc.

  • Strong process focus, with the ability to effectively communicate concepts and ideas in written or verbal form

  • Effective leadership and organizational skills

  • Thorough knowledge of OEM and Caterpillar warranty and goodwill policies is an asset

  • Familiar with ISO Quality Assurance programs

  • Competent with MS Word and Excel. Knowledge of MS Access an asset

  • Competent operating in a mid-scale ERP environment

  • This position is based out of our OEM Remanufacturing facility in Edmonton

  • Permanent, full-time role

  • 5x2, Monday – Friday shift
