Alberta Health Services has an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Aide in Continuing Care at the Drayton Valley Hospital. If you like small town living, this position in Drayton Valley might be for you! In this position, as a member of the nursing team, you will demonstrate genuine interest and respect for 50 Continuing Care residents that focuses on the delivery of excellent patient and family centered care.

As a Health Care Aide, you are responsible for providing direct client care to the elderly population, including those diagnosed with Alzheimer disease or other dementias, in a manner that demonstrates the principles of choice, respect, dignity, privacy, individuality and independence. Drayton Valley is located in the Central Zone, just 133 km southwest of Edmonton and 172 km northwest of Red Deer.

The town has a population of over 7,000. In and around the area are a library, movie theatre, bowling alley, camping areas, 6 golf courses, and an indoor swimming pool. The Omniplex encompasses three multi‑purpose recreation facilities, all under one roof. Conveniently located in the heart of Lions West Valley Park, the Omniplex is surrounded by five baseball diamonds, a soccer field, the rodeo grounds, a secluded day‑use park and a 40‑site full‑service RV Park.

Description

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi‑disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short‑term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing.

Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Required Qualifications

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at  Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program;

or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
