Senior DevOps Specialist

Overview

The Client is undertaking a large-scale digital transformation to deliver simpler, more efficient, and citizen-focused services. To support this initiative, the Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) Division serves as the Province's center for modern digital delivery, ensuring service quality and value through human-centered design, Agile methodologies, and modern data and Dev Ops practices. The branch is seeking a Senior Dev Ops Specialist to lead and support the delivery, operation, and continuous improvement of secure, scalable, and high-impact digital platforms.

Responsibilities

Dev Ops & Infrastructure

• Design, implement, and maintain automation scripts, tools, and procedures to support operations and enable low-downtime deployments.
• Lead operations of digital services in production, including:
  • Configuration and credential management across environments
  • Maintenance planning and execution
  • Database upgrades, migrations, backups, and recovery
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment templates, and reusable Dev Ops patterns.
• Develop tools and scripts to automate environment provisioning for development, testing, and production.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and telemetry solutions to improve application observability and performance tracking.
• Proactively monitor infrastructure and applications, identifying and resolving performance, reliability, and security issues.
• Continuously upgrade infrastructure and tooling to reduce technical debt and address vulnerabilities.

Security & Compliance

• Apply security best practices and ensure solutions meet regulatory and compliance standards.
• Lead infrastructure and security reviews to ensure high levels of quality and security.
• Support security scans, performance testing, load testing, and system testing as part of CI/CD pipelines.

Agile Delivery & Collaboration

• Collaborate with Team Leads, Developers, QA Engineers, and Dev Ops team members to support seamless integration and delivery.
• Support early and frequent delivery through Alpha and Beta releases.
• Promote Dev Ops best practices, continuous improvement, and process optimization within delivery teams.
• Maintain Dev Ops documentation, artifacts, and operational standards.
• Work within Agile/Scrum methodologies, contributing to open communication and a high-performance team culture.

Must-Haves

Education

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Work Experience

• 7+ years experience with Azure Red Hat Open Shift
• 7+ years experience with Build Master
• 7+ years experience with Disaster Recovery architectures, processes, and testing
• 7+ years experience in performance monitoring and troubleshooting
• 7+ years experience replicating environments across development, test, and production
• 7+ years experience scaling services using horizontal and/or vertical scaling techniques
• 7+ years experience with VM sizing based on performance testing and workload needs
• 7+ years experience as a Dev Ops Specialist on large-scale Agile enterprise projects
• 7+ years experience working on consistent enterprise Agile development teams
• 7+ years experience with cloud-based and mobile application development

Nice-to-Haves

• 3+ years experience incrementally transforming large-scale enterprise legacy systems
• 2+ years experience within the Government of Alberta or similar public-sector environment
• 2+ years experience leveraging AI tools for Dev Ops development
• 2+ years experience working in large national or global organizations
