The RoleWe are looking for a highly skilled and strategic Group Financial Controller to lead our finance function. This role requires a hands‑on leader with extensive experience in financial reporting, risk management, compliance, and driving business performance. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to shape financial strategies, enhance operational efficiencies, and support the Group’s ambitious growth plans both organically and through possible acquisitions.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate monthly group management accounts.
- Maintain a robust financial control environment that complies with legislation, meets accounting standards, and mitigates risks.
- Oversee the production and audit of the group’s financial statements.
- Work with senior management to prepare and deliver financial forecasts.
- Ensure the group’s tax responsibilities are met.
- Manage group cash flows and balances efficiently.
- Organise and manage the Finance team to ensure responsibilities are met efficiently and within agreed timescales.
- Develop and implement financial controls and risk management frameworks.
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and reporting by embracing developments in IT‑based systems.
- A minimum of 5 years post‑qualification experience working in a finance team in UK industry.
- Experience working with Groups of companies.
- Experience in logistics or distribution or FMCG companies.
- Experience in the finance team of a large company or Group (turnover in excess of £50m).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Confident leadership and management skills to effectively lead a busy finance team.
- Experience working with large ERP systems.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
- Proven experience in leading and developing finance teams.
- Excellent analytical skills with a hands‑on approach to problem‑solving.
- Ability to understand the taxation and import duties relevant to the Group.
- A senior leadership role within a well‑established and fast‑growing national business.
