Job Summary
  • Enfield Council is seeking an experienced Housing Coordinator to join the Housing Advisory Service on a short-term interim basis to cover a vacant post.
  • The role sits within the Single Homeless Service, supporting single people who approach the Council for housing assistance.
  • The postholder will carry out statutory homelessness assessments, provide housing options advice, and deliver effective homelessness prevention and relief in accordance with Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Reduction Act.
  • The role involves working with vulnerable customers, including those with mental health needs, prison leavers, people discharged from hospital and rough sleepers, and requires strong partnership working across internal and external agencies.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample)
  • Carry out robust homelessness assessments and determine applications in accordance with Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and statutory guidance.
  • Provide high-quality housing options advice, prevention and relief casework to single homeless customers.
  • Use homelessness prevention tools such as Homefinder schemes, rent deposit/bond schemes and Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring accurate case recording, prioritisation and communication within agreed timescales.
  • Arrange and undertake home visits to verify homelessness, inspect housing conditions and confirm household circumstances.
  • Liaise with Market Management, Temporary Accommodation and Housing Register teams to secure suitable accommodation.
  • Interpret and explain complex housing and legal matters to customers, landlords and partner agencies.
  • Respond to legal challenges, MP and Councillor enquiries, complaints and complex correspondence.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams including Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, Mental Health Services, Benefits and Legal Services.
  • Ensure compliance with welfare benefits regulations including Housing Benefit, Local Housing Allowance and Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Promote the Council’s online housing portal and digital services.
  • Maintain compliance with Council policies, safeguarding duties, equality standards and information security requirements.
