Food Service Assistant
Location: Ashtead Park, Surrey
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
We are a day and boarding co‑educational school catering for 950 students and teachers daily, offering breakfast, lunch, supper, tuckshop twice daily, a 6th form café, internal and external hospitality. The role may be term‑time only, term‑time plus 4 weeks or 52 weeks, operating 7 days a week.
Role Requirements (Task & Responsibilities)- Prepare food for service, following good hygiene and safety practices and to the standard specified.
- Ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy to the required standard of the Chef Manager or to the Hygiene standards set by the company / Client.
- Clear, clean and store away any food, beverage or equipment required for special functions.
- Restock and replenish stocks and consumables as required during service periods, to achieve optimum customer service delivery.
- Operate cleaning, dishwashing equipment. Properly clean and store equipment, service, preparation, and storage areas.
- Complete all / any necessary cleaning/hygiene duties.
- Interact and acknowledge all customers and client staff.
- Attend all staff meetings as required.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, legislation, and company procedures to promote a professional and flexible approach.
- Wear the correct uniform neatly and cleanly at all times.
- Perform necessary food temperature checks in the service and associated areas.
- Carry out all reasonable requests of the management.
- Be conscientious of Health & Safety and report any hazards to the manager.
- Show key personal skills and attributes: previous experience in a busy kitchen (preferred), fresh food preparation, customer service experience (preferred), teamwork, listening, initiative, impeccable personal presentation, hygiene, behaviour towards others, and a food hygiene certificate (preferred).
- Be adaptable, flexible, reliable, honest, and demonstrate an open, attentive approach to customer service.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take responsibility.
- Ability to manage moderate heavy lifting, carrying, and pushing.
- Reasonable understanding and use of spoken English.
- Reasonable written English and reading skills.
- Preferred similar experience in customer and/or food preparation environment.
