JOB SUMMARY

The Broadcast Technician is responsible for ensuring the continuity of broadcast and audio-visual operations at Woodbine Racetrack and Mohawk Park Racetrack. This role involves troubleshooting, repair, installation, maintenance, and configuration of all broadcast equipment and systems, including cameras, audio, intercom, transmission, audio-visual, control room and master control systems, wiring, connectivity, digital signage, display, PA systems, streaming, and related technologies.

The Broadcast Technician will ensure high-quality audio and video signals during live and recorded productions by monitoring and adjusting equipment in real time, performing preventive maintenance, and resolving technical issues quickly to minimize downtime. This role works closely with producers, engineers, and on-air talent to deliver seamless broadcasts while adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Strong technical knowledge of analog and digital systems, IP-based broadcasting, and streaming platforms is essential, along with the ability to work under pressure, solve problems efficiently, and maintain accurate documentation. This position often requires working in studios, control rooms, and on-site at live events, with schedules that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITES

Maintain performance and full-service functionality of Woodbine’s Broadcast Facilities

Attend and address facilities corrective service actions and equipment-specific configuration administration that ensure best performance for delivery of services

Complete performance monitoring and review of system performance and communicate status updates to Manager

Liaise with manufacturer support, operators, and suppliers to resolve identified issues that are impacting operational status in a timely fashion

Recommendations for small to medium-sized purchases to improve productivity

Recommendations for maintenance spending and lifecycle replacements

Training and mentorship of operational crew

Seen as an escalation point to the Broadcast department operations team

Control over quality of customer-facing activations including TVs, LED screen, digital signage, simulcast racing distribution, PA audio across our buildings

Some interaction with support vendors as needed for support

Provide quick response as technical support for video/audio equipment across the organization

Provide support for equipment used to provision web streaming

Assist operators with efficient and effective equipment operations as required

Develop strong rapport and two-way communication skills with operators to ensure effective problem solving, and insights into equipment issues during live productions

Provide feedback to internal teams in determining the appropriate technological production solutions to fit their needs

Maintain and repair all technical equipment in the Broadcast department

Maintain current knowledge of inner workings of equipment/systems, the connection points and interdependencies of operations positions

Recommends solutions based on the balance between operational efficiency and equipment malfunctions

Quick implementation of manual workarounds when automation fails

Quick instructional training of operations crew – sometimes while remote, on the phone – to resolve a technical or functional issue

Propose creative new solutions for business challenges or new revenue opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS

Recognized post-secondary degree/diploma in Broadcast or Electronics Technology

Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in the Broadcast industry

Working knowledge of current broadcast technical standards
