Hire Art is helping our client find a Vehicle Operations Specialist to support the safe testing and operation of autonomous vehicle technology.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in advancing the development of self-driving systems by operating test vehicles, monitoring system behavior, and providing detailed, actionable feedback to engineers and managers. You’ll also represent the company during field operations, engaging with the public and supporting a wide range of on-the-ground activities that ensure smooth and safe operations.

As a Vehicle Operations Specialist, you'll:Develop a deep understanding of how the company’s self-driving technology operates.Safely operate autonomous test vehicles for approximately 5–6 hours per day while closely monitoring performance and system behavior.Exercise exceptional judgment and maintain focus in dynamic, real-world driving conditions.Provide clear and detailed feedback to engineering and operations teams to improve system performance and reliability.Stay informed and adaptable as system updates and operational procedures evolve daily.Represent the company as a professional and informed voice to self-driving enthusiasts, bystanders, and the broader community.Contribute to general operations tasks, including vehicle washing, garage maintenance, materials handling, and travel support (e.g., picking up colleagues, assisting with logistics, and other ad hoc duties).Requirements
2+ years of experience as an Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Safety Operator or the equivalentStrong focus on safety, situational awareness, and operational disciplineExcellent communication skills and fluency in EnglishValid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record (no points or violations)Ability to pass a background checkValid passport and willingness to travel internationally (25%+), including extended stays in the Middle East and Europe to train new safety driversPreferred Qualifications:Proven success working effectively as part of a teamPassion for automotive technology or hands-on vehicle maintenance experienceFamiliarity with vehicle systems and diagnosticsMultilingual communication skills are plusCommitment:This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. The role is onsite in San Jose, CA, and requires flexibility to support occasional weekend shifts or extended hours during business travel.
