Accounts Senior / Assistant Manager - Exeter

Clark Wood are currently working with a large, reputable independent firm of chartered accountants in Exeter who are seeking an Accounts Senior or Assistant Manager to join them.

This firm is well-known within the for providing high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory support, while maintaining a people-first culture. They pride themselves on long-standing client relationships and offer a genuinely supportive environment where you can develop your expertise and take on increasing responsibility.

In this position, you will manage a varied portfolio of clients, preparing and reviewing annual accounts, tax computations, VAT returns, and forecasts. You will work closely with businesses, offering practical advice and identifying planning opportunities. The role will also involve visiting clients on-site, attending local events, and becoming a known and trusted point of contact within the community.

You will additionally be involved in reviewing bookkeeping work, ensuring accounting records are kept accurate and up to date, and drafting correspondence for clients and HMRC. Exposure to capital taxes such as inheritance tax and capital gains tax will also form part of the portfolio. As a senior member of the team, you will support the development of junior colleagues, helping to maintain the firm’s high standards of service.

The ideal candidate will be AAT, ACA, ACCA qualified or nearing qualification, or qualified by experience, and will have experience in accounts preparation and tax compliance within practice. Experience with agricultural clients is highly beneficial but not essential; more importantly, you will bring a methodical approach, strong technical skills, and a personable, professional manner.
