Specialty Doctor Psychiatrist in Perinatal

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of mothers and babies? Join our dedicated team at the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) in Exeter and its linked Outreach Team, providing specialist mental health care during the perinatal period.

This unique role offers variety and impact working across an eight-bed inpatient unit and supporting families in the community. You will collaborate with a skilled multidisciplinary team, contribute to assessments and reviews, and help shape the future of perinatal mental health services.

This is a fixed term post for 12 months which offers 7.5 Programmed Activities.

Main duties of the job

Therole of the Speciality doctor on the MBU includes being part of a MDT team and playing an active part in the team meetings and ward reviews. The role includes completing assessments and reviews of patients outside of these MDT meetings.

The postholder will also provide a degree of cover during periods when the Consultant is on leave. A named Responsible Clinician will always be allocated to provide oversight and be available on the ward if required, ensuring safe and supported clinical practice at all times.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent
  • GMC registration.
  • Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Research
  • Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site.
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals.
Personal Skills, Continuing Professional Development, Motivation, Practical Arrangements and Physical
  • Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form.
  • Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges.
