This regional consultancy provides specialist development planning and infrastructure services across the south west. The team includes engineers, transport planners and technicians working collaboratively across transport, flood risk, drainage and development infrastructure projects. Purpose of the Role
To support the Flood Risk and Drainage team in preparing assessments, strategy work and technical inputs for development planning projects. You will assist senior colleagues while building core skills, gaining exposure to varied projects and contributing to high quality deliverables for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sections of Flood Risk Assessments and outline drainage strategies
- Undertake hydrology and hydraulic calculations with guidance
- Assist with site visits, data collection and baseline appraisal
- Support senior staff in designing sustainable drainage concepts
- Contribute to feasibility assessments and option development
- Carry out technical analysis using industry software such as Micro Drainage, GIS and AutoCAD
- Collaborate with colleagues in transport planning and infrastructure design teams
- Produce clear, structured technical notes and support documents
- Maintain organised project files and meet agreed timescales
- Engage in internal and external training to develop toward professional qualification
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geography or similar
- Minimum 2 years experience in flood risk or drainage design within consultancy
- Familiarity with planning stage work including FRA, SuDS and surface water strategy development
- Good numeracy, analytical skills and report writing capability
- Experience with relevant tools such as Micro Drainage, GIS, CAD or similar
- Understanding of current guidance including NPPF, SuDS policy and local standards
- Proactive approach, willingness to learn and ability to work as part of a busy team
- Desire to work toward professional accreditation such as IEng, CEng or CIWEM
