Overview
We are seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy in Devon. This senior role offers the opportunity to lead electrical design on technically complex, sustainable building services projects, including commercial offices, healthcare facilities, heritage redevelopments, and innovative educational spaces.
The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will take ownership of electrical systems design, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to business development while enjoying the exceptional lifestyle and work-life balance Devon has to offer.
Key Responsibilities
Lead electrical design across a diverse range of building projects, ensuring high-quality, sustainable solutions
Prepare technical specifications, drawings, calculations, and contract documentation
Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing
Act as a primary client and consultant contact, supporting project coordination and delivery
Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards
Support project planning, budgeting, and fee proposals
Contribute to business development and maintain strong client relationships
Keep up-to-date with industry trends, legislation, and best practices
Candidate Profile
Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline
Chartered or working toward CEng status (IET, CIBSE, or equivalent)
Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical building services design
Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech, NES, Cymap, and MS Office
Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Full UK driving licence
