Metro Rod Exeter – Salary £35,000 – £45,000 DOE + benefits

Founded in 1983, Metro Rod and its sister company Metro Plumb are leading providers of drain clearance and maintenance services delivered largely reactively. The services are provided by over 60 franchisees across the UK, clearing and unblocking drains for more than thirty years, with a reputation for quality service and customer satisfaction. Major companies and high‑street names trust us for regular drain maintenance and we bring the same high standards to tackle your drain blockage.
Within the Waste & Water Services Division of Franchise Brands are also Willow Pumps and Filta, two expanding businesses focusing on sewage pumps and commercial kitchen solutions, offering a complete one‑stop shop for keeping water and waste flowing.
We are looking for a well‑established Office Manager to oversee the smooth and efficient running of the office, ensuring all administrative, financial and operational processes support field operations and management. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a drainage, construction, engineering or facilities management environment, understanding the pace, compliance needs and technical aspects of the industry.
What does it entail?The role is a supervisory role overseeing the engineering team and the day‑to‑day running of a very busy drainage business.
You will be the ‘go to’ person for internal and external stakeholders including Engineers, office employees, senior management and the Metro Rod support centre. The role requires proven office management experience capable of organising and managing a very busy office. Main duties (not exclusive):
- Day‑to‑day management of the office
- Implement and maintain administrative systems to support site operations and project delivery
- Coordinate internal communications, ensuring information flows effectively between office and site teams
- Support with purchase orders, invoices and expense reconciliation
- Assist with maintaining compliance documentation for audits
- Manage supplier accounts and assist with procurement of materials
- Maintain company records, policies and documentation to comply with ISO or industry standards
- Provide support to team members
- Liaise with Engineers
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop project plans and timelines
- Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to deadlines
- Plan and schedule works to be completed
- Process quotations
- Assist with organising vehicle repairs and maintenance
- Proven office management experience within a technical/similar environment
- Skilled at working within a fast‑paced operational environment
- Multi‑tasking ability
- Good understanding of Health and Safety
- Willingness to complete SSSTS course, and possibly SMSTS
- Ability to write detailed reports and documentation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confident and positive character, able to motivate a team
- Able to build lasting working relationships across the board – within the Franchise and wider business
- Strong problem‑solving skills
- On‑call work (managing the phone some weekdays between 5 and 7 pm and some weekends)
