Regional Engineering Manager – Edinburgh

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all Engineering activities and maintain a work environment in accordance with cGMP, Environmental, Health & Safety legislation and internal procedures.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with relevant Safe Systems of Work and associated SOPs (e.g., Control of Contractors, Permit to Work, Safe Isolation, Risk Assessment).
  • Lead, motivate and inspire individuals and team—hold self and team accountable for results.
  • Facilitate daily meetings; identify priorities and direct team members accordingly.
  • Represent Engineering at inter‑departmental meetings, interact and communicate effectively.
  • Actively drive Continuous Improvement using Lean tools and principles, reducing waste and improving yield and uptime.
  • Instill a proactive approach to problem solving; own/delegate faults and problems driving timely resolutions, record, review and analyse historical data, encourage team to seek a better way.
  • Lead/delegate and oversee departmental initiatives & capex projects, delivering on time and on budget.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) during client and regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Progress all quality records and Health & Safety actions within agreed timelines.
  • Manage and oversee routine scheduling and forward planning requirements.
  • Develop Engineering staff, ensuring appropriate competencies and behaviours in line with company values; identify skills gaps and source suitable training or development.
  • Performance management—set objectives and appraise direct reports in line with expectations, complete regular 1‑to‑1 meetings.
  • Manage absence, disciplinary and performance‑related problems.
  • Be flexible, willing to support business overtime and out‑of‑hours requirements.
  • Perform any duties reasonably requested by the company from time to time.
  • Deputise for Engineering HOD when required.

Qualifications &

Competencies:

  • Recognized, relevant Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and leadership qualifications.
  • Environmental, Health & Safety trained.
  • Basic understanding of project management principles required to succeed.
  • Experience leading/supervising a multi‑discipline Engineering or technical team.
  • Knowledge and experience of Pharmaceutical/Biochemistry cGMP‑related process industry.
  • Understands quality compliance, validation, regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Working knowledge of asset and equipment management, cost of ownership, etc.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively internally and with other departments and stakeholders.
  • Delegates when required and coaches or develops where appropriate.
  • Solution driven, proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Inspires individuals and team to identify, anticipate and resolve faults or complex technical problems.
  • Organised, structured approach and able to coordinate others to plan ahead.
  • Understands and fully utilises the capabilities of their team, developing individuals accordingly.
  • Demonstrates the correct behaviours in line with company values, success factors and cultural priorities.
  • Is mindful and cognisant of the needs, emotions and priorities of others.
