Assistant Print Designer – Temporary Contract

Seasalt, Falmouth, England, United Kingdom

About the role

At Seasalt, creativity is in our DNA. We began in 1981 in a small shop in Penzance, crafting workwear for local mariners and artists. Today, we’re a modern lifestyle brand with over 80 shops across the UK, Ireland and North America, 400+ wholesale stockists, and a growing global presence. We may have grown, but we’ve always stayed true to our roots with Cornwall’s artistic influence and maritime heritage woven into every garment.

As a certified B Corp and winner of Drapers “Best Place to Work” in 2024, we’re proud to balance our culture with long term growth. It's an exciting time to join us as we build on our distinct creative handwriting, brand differentiation, and expand both internationally and in the UK.

As an Assistant Print Designer, you’ll support the Print Designer in developing elevated, timeless, and commercially successful print and colour concepts that align with Seasalt’s signature aesthetic. This role involves technical execution, research, and collaboration to ensure seamless translation of print and colour stories from concept to production.

The Assistant Print Designer will play a key role in artwork layout, colour approvals, and print development, working closely with the design team and suppliers to achieve the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Please note this is a full‑time temporary contract of approximately 12 months. The role will be based flexibly across our Cornwall head office locations (4 days per week) and the remainder working remotely.

If you aren’t currently Cornwall based, we are pleased to offer a 5% relocation allowance of the offered salary to support your move. Please provide a copy of your portfolio as part of your application, either by attaching a document or including a link within your CV/ cover letter.

You'll help us by:

  • Assisting in the creation and development of original, hand‑rendered and digital print designs, ensuring alignment with seasonal direction and brand handwriting.
  • Researching print, pattern, and colour trends, contributing to balanced and coherent print stories.
  • Supporting the Print and Design team to maintain and organise the seasonal colour palettes.
  • Preparing precise repeat patterns, placement print layouts, and colour separations for supplier handover.
  • Ensuring all print artworks meet technical specifications, are set up correctly for production and inputted into Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in line with the critical path.
  • Managing the approval process for print and colour, driving for consistency across collections and product categories, and ensuring seamless execution.
  • Working with the design team to ensure print application complements fabric characteristics, drape, and wearability.
  • Assisting in the preparation of presentation boards and print story overviews for meetings, presenting where required.
  • Supporting the team in ensuring cohesive visual storytelling across campaigns, lookbooks, and online representation.
  • Working closely with mills, printers, and factories to review and refine strike‑offs, lab dips, and bulk approvals.

The skills you’ll bring:

  • Relevant experience or qualification in a field such as Fashion Design, Textile Design, Surface Design, Sustainable Textile Production or Adobe Illustrator.
  • Proven knowledge of design methodologies and the ability to develop print designs into repeat.
  • Previous experience in overseeing day‑to‑day operations and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Creative, considered and a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a proactive growth mindset, continuously developing skills, embracing feedback, and adapting positively to new challenges to enhance creative and commercial impact.
  • Fashion retail experience is desirable, but not essential.

  • Flexible benefits allowance to personalise your benefits package.
