Lead Driver

What you’ll be doing:

• Work effectively within the Operations Team to support daily bus services.
• Foster cooperation between Traffic, Engineering, and other depots.
• Supervise driver attendance, punctuality, and appearance.
• Open and secure the depot at the start or end of shifts.
• Lead by example through professional conduct and presentation.
• Oversee vehicle allocation and daily runout of services.
• Ensure cost‑effective duty coverage using systems like Grampian.
• Monitor service performance and address early/late running.
• Carry out driver spot checks and ensure policy compliance.
• Administer drug and alcohol tests as required.
• Manage cash machines, lost property, mileage records and incident logs.
• Respond to operational issues and assist with customer complaints.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Report driver conduct issues and support disciplinary processes.
• Undertake driving duties and assist with administration as needed.

• Strong leadership and team coordination skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• High attention to detail and operational awareness
• Sound knowledge of bus operations and relevant regulations
• Qualified first aider or a desire to become one
• IT literacy, especially in operational tools such as Grampian
• Commitment to customer service, safety, and professionalism
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities
• Excellent planning and prioritising skills
• Self‑motivated with a positive approach to change
• Excellent customer focus
