The Working Foreman is ultimately responsible for providing direction to a crew of related trades personnel as outlined by the General Foreman. The crew performs work in production piping and mechanical labor (fitters, welders & mechanical), direct materials, consumables, production facilities, and equipment. The Foreman will also support the General Foreman and assist in directing and coordinating the cutting, fitting, welding and testing of all piping & mechanical systems and equipment contracts onsite to achieve production targets, schedules, and quality objectives, as well as contributing to strategic operations objectives as outlined in project schedules.
Safety- Responsible for the direct oversight on all safety related matters for his or her crew.
- Act as a spokesperson for the work crew on all safety related matters.
- Actively participate in the investigation of all safety incidents.
- Report and investigate all safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner.
- Provide crew direction on the planning and coordination of labor to achieve production and contractual schedule targets.
- Participate in the provision of weekly status updates of work order progress.
- Participate in build strategy development, production planning, and scheduling meetings.
- Remove scheduling barriers where possible to crew progress.
- Direct welders, mechanics, facilities, and equipment utilization to achieve production and contract targets.
- Participate in continuous improvement discussions.
- Use direct materials and consumables cost‑effectively.
- Ensure that trades personnel have the skill level, training, experience, and knowledge to perform tasks in accordance with contractual specifications and Company quality standards.
- Ensure that the most up-to-date information is available and used by the trades personnel according to client specifications.
- Ensure that production tooling, equipment, and facilities used are calibrated (where required) and properly used to meet contractual and company standards.
- Implement corrective action in a timely manner.
- Deploy adequate resources to meet the quality schedule and cost requirements of the job.
- Completed a technology or formal journeyman program in a recognized trades discipline.
- Experience with formal quality systems such as ISO 9000 or ASME.
- 5+ years of demonstrated knowledge in specific trades.
- Project and/or maintenance experience including pipe fabrication, fitting, welding, handling of large complex assemblies (up to 20 tons), rigging, burning, NDT, and safety awareness.
- Experience with labor cost control (budgets, reporting, progress evaluation, and scheduling).
- Experience with provincial occupational health and safety regulations and application.
- Proven ability to understand the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and commissioning phases.
- Sound knowledge of construction and project standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
