We are seeking a Junior Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic Water Resources Group in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As part of the Hatfield team, the Junior Hydrogeologist will support the implementation of hydrogeology components of Hatfield's environmental management projects in northern Alberta.

Responsibilities:
  • Compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client health and safety protocols.
  • Implementing and leading field programs required for hydrogeologic monitoring.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to collect data to assess potential project-related and/or climate change related impacts with respect to water resources and environmental values.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated to meet operational and field requirements.
  • Support ongoing data management (e.g., review of near-real-time telemetry, continuous and periodic water level, and lab data) and reporting to clients and regulatory agencies (e.g., draft technical report sections and data summaries).
  • Support research and analytical tasks including data collection, compilation, analysis, statistical and deterministic modeling.
  • Communicate technical information efficiently and effectively (verbal and written).
Education and Experience:
  • B.Sc. or higher in sciences or engineering with hydrogeology experience and appropriate qualifications for work in Alberta.
  • The ideal candidate will be registered with APEGA as a geoscientist in training and have a minimum 2 years of demonstrated groundwater experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrogeologic monitoring instrumentation and data logger programming.
  • Experience and interest in field work. Field work in remote locations is required.
  • Familiar with the Alberta and Federal regulatory processes.
  • Fluent verbal communication and ability to write concisely.
Other Assets/

Skills:

  • Experience with field programs, particularly with soil, surface water, groundwater or climate monitoring and instrumentation or investigation programs.
  • Environmental experience, such as mine site access, construction monitoring and environmental effects monitoring.
  • Experience with data handling and analysis. In particular, a background in Aquarius, R statistics, Python, GIS.
  • Comfortable using technology and a desire to learn how to operate a variety of environmental monitoring systems such as data loggers and software packages.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
  • Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of adherence to field standard operating procedures and good data collection.
  • A valid Canadian driver's license, as well as the ability to drive a 3/4 ton truck and meet the requirements for our third party automobile insurance policy.
  • Jetboat operation experience would be considered an asset but is not required.
