The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team based in Northern BC and Yukon. This position is available in our Prince George, Terrace and Fort St. John offices. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will work closely with our professionals, collaborate with industry experts, and work on various large‑scale projects throughout British Columbia and Yukon Territory.

What you can expect to do here
  • Work collaboratively with engineering staff on geotechnical consulting projects;
  • Share technical knowledge across geographical boundaries to foster innovative project solutions;
  • Prepare geotechnical studies and engineering reports providing recommendations on various geotechnical aspects in projects, based on studies and project‑specific work;
  • Provide geotechnical engineering expertise to support multi‑disciplinary projects such as highways, bridges, buildings, dams, industrial infrastructure, tunneling, etc.;
  • Assist in developing and leading projects requiring geotechnical investigation programs, prepare bidding documents, solicit bids, evaluate subcontractor submissions and support project engineers as part of their mandate;
  • Assess and evaluate geotechnical issues encountered, such as settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, interstitial over pressure development, preferential flow, frost heave, excavation and back filling procedures, etc.;
  • Support field operations through managing field programs that may include boreholes, in‑situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, as well as miscellaneous construction work such as soil embankment construction, subgrade compaction assessment, installation of geosynthetics, etc.;
  • You may be required to perform other tasks as part of your role in the team.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • A bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with Geotechnical emphasis from an accredited university;
  • You are presently registered as a P.Eng. in Canada, and eligible for registration with EGBC;
  • Some relevant experience gained as a P.Eng. in a Canadian province or territory;
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience as a consultant Geotechnical Engineer, Geomechanics Engineer, or related position;
  • Knowledge of standard geotechnical software such as Geo Studio (Slope/W, Seep/W, etc.), Rocscience, or other similar software suites;
  • Demonstrated sense of initiative and ability to be self‑directed;
  • Strong track record of managing and completing projects on time and on budget;
  • Ability to perform critical evaluation of outputs for geotechnical analyses;
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license.
Compensation

Salary range (in British Columbia): $96,200 - $132,200. A Northern Living…
