Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at the Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

The Registered Nurse - Perinatal, working collaboratively with the inter-professional team, plans and provides direct patient care to obstetrical patients during the intra, postpartum and high-risk antepartum periods and other assigned patients by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

Dawson Creek & District Hospital

Dawson Creek and District Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides service to Dawson Creek and surrounding communities. It has 31 Acute Care beds and 15 regional adult psychiatric beds. Dawson Creek is the Orthopaedic Trauma and Surgical centre for the Northeast Region of BC. Services include:

  • Emergency
  • ICU
  • Day Surgery
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Primary Care
  • Acute Care
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Laboratory

Construction is underway on the new Dawson Creek & District Hospital, anticipated to open in Spring 2027. This state-of-the-art facility will be over 50% bigger than the current hospital and will feature 70 beds, modern patient care spaces, and expanded and enhanced services to meet the growing needs of the community. Dawson Creek

Wide blue skies and the rolling foothills of the Northern Rockies surround Dawson Creek. The city is also known as the Mile Zero City, as it marks the start of the Alaska Highway, a 2,400 km long highway connecting Alaska and the Yukon to Western Canada and the United States. Dawson Creek has a population of approximately 12,500. It provides primary service to a population of approximately 20,000 and helps serve the larger population of the Peace River Region of 60,000.

Qualfications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program.
  • One (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance Course Certificate
Skills and Abilities
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
  • Ability to recognize acuity changes.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory and expertise to provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety interventions.
