About the role

As MOT Tester / Technician, youll be responsible for carrying out full MOT inspections in line with UK regulations, ensuring every vehicle that passes through is safe, roadworthy and meets the required standards. Alongside MOT testing, you may get involved in light mechanical or diagnostic work and liaise with the wider service team to support customer vehicles. Precision, clear documentation and consistency will be your daily bread: complete checks, record results accurately, and communicate clearly if any issues arise.

The role is with a well-respected dealership and MOT centre in the Scottish Borders, operating under a name widely recognised for quality and customer care. A place where youll be supported to work to the highest standards and grow professionally.

Working hours

Monday to Friday, 08:30 17:00.

Key duties
  • Perform MOT inspections in accordance with current DVSA standards.
  • Identify defects and safety issues accurately and consistently.
  • Record and maintain full documentation of all tests and results.
  • Ensure testing equipment is properly used and maintained, and meets compliance standards.
  • Liaise with the service team when further maintenance or repair work is needed.
  • Provide clear, honest feedback to customers and colleagues about test results or vehicle condition.
Key requirements
  • Valid UK MOT Tester certification (or equivalent), and experience carrying out MOT tests.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and comfort with vehicle systems (lights, brakes, emissions, steering, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Ability to document work accurately and clearly.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team and sometimes liaise with customers or service advisors.
  • Full UK driving licence.
