We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the video team as a production journalist. We are looking for someone with strong editorial instincts and creative flair to work with the team that makes Reporting Scotland on BBC One Scotland and Reporting Scotland News at Seven on the BBC Scotland channel.
YourKey Responsibilities and Impact
- As a production journalist, you will be a valuable member of the team.
- You will work with senior journalists, presenters and programme editors to shape the programmes we make.
- You will be required to take on a variety of shifts and roles. This includes working closely with presenters to produce and transmit breakfast and late bulletins for Reporting Scotland on BBC One as well as contributing to the main edition of the programme at 1830 and the 1330 bulletin.
- You will also help the News at Seven create interesting and compelling programmes by booking guests and working with reporters and senior producers.
- Some weekend working will be required.
- A strong editorial background and a good understanding of Scotland’s political and cultural life and its institutions and communities.
- An extensive understanding of the news agenda. Good knowledge of the stories which affect a Scottish audience.
- Good production skills – from editing material, booking guests and writing sharp, impartial and crucially accurate copy.
- You will have previous experience of working in a newsroom environment and have the ability to adapt to new systems.
- As an experienced journalist you will understand how Reporting Scotland and the News at Seven presents stories in an impartial and accurate way, especially when reporting on controversial issues.
- Creative thinking – coming up with ideas and thinking of ways to make them into exciting television.
- The confidence to contribute to editorial discussions and a high degree of motivation and a can-do attitude.
