6) – Ground Engineering (Glasgow)

Join us at Jacobs as a Civil Engineering Apprentice (Level
6) – Ground Engineering in Glasgow. You will work towards achieving a UK Level 6 qualification at the University of Strathclyde or Glasgow Caledonian University and progress towards a bachelor’s degree (BEng) and professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

About the Opportunity

Ground engineering focuses on the behaviour of soils and rocks below the surface, supporting projects such as tunnels, bridges, highways, railways, dams, airports and natural hazard mitigation. As an apprentice, you will gain experience in geotechnical design, calculations, technical drawings and ground investigation site work. You will work on world‑class projects with the Tunnelling and Ground Engineering team and be supported by a dedicated mentor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting in geotechnical designs and calculations for civil engineering projects.
  • Producing technical drawings and supporting construction and ground investigation site work.
  • Using specialist software and learning design principles and industry standards.
  • Working within multidisciplinary teams and communicating with clients and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the delivery and added value of projects.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 120 UCAS tariff points or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in ground engineering.
  • Strong communication and team‑working skills.
  • Flexible, proactive self‑starter with enthusiasm for learning.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritise work and study demands.
  • Empathy and listening skills to understand client requirements.
  • Committed to working as part of a diverse team.
  • Permanent right to work in the UK.
