Job Description
What if you could do the kind of work the world needs? At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.
A Little More About Your Role… As a paid, full‑time, permanent employee you will join a global community of talented engineers, scientists and advisors. You will receive full training combined with real, on‑the‑job learning. You will work with dynamic teams on a variety of projects across multiple sectors from day one. You will ask questions, look at problems from a different angle and help find solutions that break concepts.
As an apprentice you will help shape the communities of tomorrow, embrace change and achieve excellence.
We have Apprenticeship opportunities in:
- Building Services Engineering: Learn the systems and equipment that ensure a building’s comfort, safety and functionality, including Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulics services.
- Civil Engineering: Study the principles of designing, constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, sports stadiums, high rises, airports and other infrastructure.
- Embedded Electrical and Electronic Engineering: Study energy analysis, electrical installations, power system design, utility networks and control systems in infrastructure, buildings and energy sectors.
- Environmental Practitioner: Help WSP conserve the environment by creating a more sustainable and healthy society. Projects may involve air quality, sustainable energy and climate change, environmental checking, land services or renewable energy (e.g. solar and wind).
- Project Management: Learn how to manage each stage of a project, including planning, costing, design and construction. Notable projects include the Shanghai Tower in London.
- Rail and Rail Systems Engineering: Help improve access to towns and cities by developing metro, rapid transit, light rail and heavy rail systems. Roles involve railway signalling, track design, communication system design and station design.
The Apprenticeship Programme
You will start your Degree Apprenticeship in September 2026, attending a local university for either one day per week or block placement, and working towards achieving a full undergraduate degree in your chosen subject. You will also have the opportunity to become registered with a relevant professional institution. The apprenticeship supports career growth through blended learning and offers business and role‑specific training, networking, mentoring and practical experience.
It includes an induction, training days, online content, on‑the‑job learning and on‑demand resources. Typically the Degree Apprenticeship takes 5‑6 years to complete (including End Point Assessment in England). We also have a unique Professional Growth Network (PGN), a networking group run by early‑career professionals, to support chartered status or other professional accreditations.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- 5 GCSEs Grade C/Level 5 or above (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science.
- Achieved or predicted A Level grades BBC (or equivalent); certain programmes may require BBB or higher.
- To study Engineering subjects a grade C minimum at A Level in Maths or Further Maths is essential.
- OR achieved or predicted a BTEC Extended Diploma (Level
3) with grades DDM in an engineering‑related subject, including a Further Maths component.
How long does the process take? You will receive a confirmation email within 5 days of submission. If you meet the entry requirements and we have an apprenticeship that matches your preferences, you will receive an online skills enablers assessment from our partner Artic Shores. If you pass this assessment, you may be shortlisted for an interview day or interview. Please note that not everyone who passes the online assessment will proceed to the interview stage.
