About the Energy UnitThe Energy unit delivers integrated engineering and project management services across the lifecycle of energy projects, from concept and design to construction, operations, and decommissioning. Our work spans nuclear, renewables, and transmission & distribution projects worldwide.
Overview of the RoleWe are looking for an environmental consultant to support the environmental assessment of UK energy projects, mainly in nuclear, networks, and the energy transition sectors. Projects may also involve work in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Key Elements of the Role- Support UK EIAs for energy projects (including DCO applications)
- Conduct due diligence for a variety of energy projects
- Assist in the delivery of environmental management plans
- Coordinate specialist inputs
- Collaborate with engineering colleagues to embed environmental consideration during project development
- Prepare project proposals
- Fluency in English
- Degree (or Masters) in an environmental subject
- Experience with EIAs for UK energy projects (transmission, distribution, solar, hydro, wind, thermal generation)
- Able to review complex documents, summarise key issues and present them clearly
- Understanding of the technical aspects of energy projects
- Willingness to travel
- Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
- Ability to work within a team and deliver to high standards
- Capability to meet challenging budgets and timescales
- Membership of a relevant professional institute
- High standard in an environmental specialism and broader awareness of other environmental/social disciplines
- Experience of option appraisals and iterative design processes
- Involvement in previous DCO applications
- Experience of undertaking a range of due diligence activities
- Experience of environmental permitting
- Understanding of technical aspects of major infrastructure projects beyond energy
- Experience of preparing proposals for new project opportunities
