About the Role

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Pharmacy Services are recruiting Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (Technical Apprenticeship). This is a fantastic opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ and become a highly trained Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

The successful candidate will undertake a comprehensive two‑year training programme that includes completing an SVQ in Pharmacy Services at SCQF Level 8 and a Professional Development Award in Pharmacy Services at SCQF Level
7. Trainees who successfully complete both qualifications within the training programme will then be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council and practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician.

Employment Details
  • Full Time (37 hours, reducing to 36 in April 2026)
  • 2 Years Fixed Term Contract
  • Based across Pharmacy Services within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team, dealing with patients and their medicinal needs.
  • Manage medicines, including dispensing and ordering medicines in acute sites or community pharmacy.
  • Perform stock management and distribution of medicines, audits and data collection.
  • Provide ward services including near‑patient dispensing services.
  • Work within an aseptic unit preparing intravenous preparations.
  • Complete work-based assessments and develop a portfolio of evidence as required.
  • Complete any required rotations.
  • Work on various sites throughout the 2‑year training as part of a Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician rota.
Eligibility & Requirements
  • Four National 5 qualifications (or SCQF equivalent) at Grade A‑C in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English/ESOL –

Key Terms and Conditions
  • Your training will be with an accredited education provider.
  • You will be registered with Skills Development Scotland as a Technical Apprentice.
  • Successful applicants will start in April 2026.
  • College will start in April/May 2026.
Modern Apprentice Salary
  • Band 4 Annex 21 Year 1: 70% – £23,111 per annum.
  • Band 4 Annex 21 Year 2: 75% – £24,762 per annum.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be supported into permanent employment at the entry point of a Band 4 starting salary scale.
