Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine - Neurorehabilitation
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday. This is a permanent full‑time post (40 hours).
Neuro rehabilitation medicine provides a consultant‑led multidisciplinary rehabilitation service for adults with physical disability referred from both hospital and community settings. Referrals are received from the inpatient neurological and neurosurgical units at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, as well as medical and surgical units in Glasgow and surrounding areas. The service provides input into the Major Trauma Centre based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Some Consultants also provide services in Ayrshire and Arran to the Douglas Grant Centre.
Patients are admitted from outpatient and domiciliary assessments and are referred by GPs, other specialists or community services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing a multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme directed by patient‑centred goals.
- Conducting weekly consultant‑led multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds to monitor patient progress and manage relevant clinical issues.
- Holding regular individual goal‑planning meetings with staff to set detailed goals for each patient.
- Providing outpatient and day‑assessment or day‑case clinics.
- Running specialist spasticity clinics and gait assessment clinics.
- Maintaining good links with the West of Scotland Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre (Westmarc) and community services.
