We are looking for a Data Engineer to join us on a permanent basis to add more capability to our data team. The role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow and we support a hybrid working style.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop BI Solutions:
    Design and develop our BI stack, involving data transformation and development using SQL Server and the Microsoft BI stack.
  • Create Data Models:
    Develop user self‑service data models using semantic models, Power BI dashboards, and paginated reports.
  • Source Data:
    Extract data from various business systems using APIs and sFTP.
  • Maintain Data Frameworks:
    Ensure the accuracy, availability, and timeliness of data in our existing data framework and solutions.
  • Code Review and Testing:
    Perform peer reviews and testing of colleagues' work to ensure high‑quality standards.
  • Collaborate in a Dev Ops Team:
    Work as part of a Dev Ops team to develop and maintain data solutions, keeping an awareness of wider team projects.
  • Participate in Agile Ceremonies:
    Engage in Agile ceremonies to manage backlogs, commitments, and continuous improvement through retrospectives.
  • Cross‑functional

    Collaboration:

    Collaborate closely with teams across the business to understand data requirements and deliver valuable insights.
  • Educate and Train:
    Train and educate stakeholders on how to use data tools and deliver data insights.

Skills:
  • SQL Proficiency:
    Strong experience in writing and optimising SQL queries.
  • ETL and Data Pipeline

    Experience:

    Expertise in building and troubleshooting ETL processes and data pipelines.
  • Data Warehousing Knowledge:
    Solid understanding of data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts.
  • Dashboard Development:
    Experience in developing dashboards using Power BI or knowledge of similar tools.
  • Semantic Model Development:
    Experience in creating semantic models and writing DAX measures or similar experience.
  • Scripting and Automation:
    Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Power Shell and C# for task automation.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Ability to test both your own work and that of your peers.
  • Analytical and Problem‑Solving

    Skills:

    Strong analytical skills with a knack for solving challenging problems.
  • Communication and

    Collaboration:

    Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
