Job DescriptionAs a Skilled CNC Operator at Waukesha Bearings, a part of Dover Precision Components, you will work in a fully integrated Computer‑Aided Manufacturing facility, utilising CNC machining centres for turning, milling and grinding operations to produce custom designs from a variety of steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium and bronze. The facility houses a broad range of multi‑axis machine tools, lathes, mills and associated equipment.
The workload consists of a high‑mix of custom‑made fluid‑film bearings, seals and isolators with typical applications in turbo and industrial machinery, supplying customers throughout Europe and beyond.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches to determine machining, dimensional specifications, set‑up and operating requirements
- Locate and download programs from a DNC storage system
- Interpret work instructions, select and install proper tooling for operations
- Calculate proper feeds and speeds for a variety of materials (steel, copper, brass, aluminium, bronze)
- Read, understand, edit or write complete programs
- Understand machining capabilities of tooling and machinery
- Follow applicable quality systems and perform necessary quality inspections
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce set‑up times and improve productivity
- Visually inspect final components
- Package parts for shipment (cleaning, oiling, wrapping)
- Perform cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing and aligning to ensure free action of movable parts
- Use precision measuring instruments and gauging devices to perform dimensional verification
- Identify components after assembly or manufacture
The role operates on a rotating shift pattern: 2 weeks early (6 am) followed by 2 weeks back‑shift (2 pm). Including an 18 % shift premium, the total earnings amount to £44,919.62, plus productivity bonuses, pension and life insurance.
Required Profile- Time‑served apprenticeship in a machining discipline or SVQ/NVQ level 3 or HNC in Mechanical Engineering
- A minimum of 5 years experience operating CNC machine tools within a lean‑manufacturing environment
- Established milling experience with multi‑axis machine tools, ideally Correa and/or Doosan or similar
- Experience with machine control systems such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain or Haas
- Proven ability to maintain tight machining tolerances of less than 0.0025 mm
- Experience with precision inspection equipment (micrometres, callipers, height gauges and bore gauges)
- Ideally experience in the power generation, oil & gas, aerospace or similar environment
