Shift Pattern: rotational, 12 hours per shift. Effective 1 April 2026, full‑time working hours for all Agenda for Change posts will be reduced to 36 hours.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Care of the Elderly for a highly motivated individual to help lead, implement and evaluate standards of good nursing care as a Charge Nurse. Ward 55 is a 30‑bed Acute Assessment Unit for the Elderly. The team cares for some of the most dependent and vulnerable patients, with a wide range of medical conditions and clinical needs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the team, promoting and providing high quality care.
  • Supervise qualified and unqualified staff.
  • Ensure appropriate learning opportunities are met for all staff.
  • Encourage best practice to deliver a high quality of patient care at all times, in line with the CAS standards framework.
  • Provide clinical guidance and professional management to the senior charge nurse.
  • Deputise for the SCN as required.
Qualifications
  • Substantial experience at Band 5 or higher within a relevant setting.
  • High level of IT skills.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of policy, procedures and national targets.
  • Excellent leadership, confident communication and effective organisational skills.
  • Evidence of personal development and willingness to contribute to education and audit.
