Advanced Nurse Practitioner Oncology – Trainee Annex 21 ANP

Apply for the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Oncology/ Trainee Annex 21 ANP role at NHS Scotland.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a permanent post. The hours are currently Monday‑Friday day shifts, but may change to 7‑day or combination hours (open 8 am–8 pm) to cover the unit. Effective 1 April 2026, the full‑time working hours for all Agenda for Change posts will be reduced to 36 hours.

The Acute Oncology Assessment Unit at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre is a nurse‑led unit run by experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The unit provides unscheduled care to patients who present acutely unwell as a result of an oncological emergency or as a side effect of their cancer/cancer treatment. Patients can be admitted from out‑patient and day‑case treatment areas within the hospital, or as unwell admissions from home.

The unit also houses the Cancer Treatment Helpline, which provides specialist, dedicated oncology advice and support to patients who are receiving systemic anti‑cancer treatment at the Beatson Oncology Centre.

As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in the Acute Oncology Service, you will provide highly skilled direct clinical care to patients with an oncological or haematological malignancy. You will independently utilise a broad range of advanced knowledge, skills and theory in clinical assessment, diagnosis and initial management of these patients. You will detect and intervene early in clinical deterioration, demonstrate high communication skills to liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team, exercise professional autonomy and make critical judgments within agreed clinical protocols.

Additionally, you will provide senior leadership within the department and on the Cancer Treatment Helpline.

Applicants should have, or be currently undertaking, advanced practice roles within an acute care setting (e.g., acute medicine, surgical, oncology/haematology) and have significant nursing experience. Competence in providing acute care to the highest standard is required, along with evidence of sound clinical decision‑making and prescribing practice. Knowledge and training equivalent to master’s level, or a commitment to undertake the required pathway, is essential.

Evidence of senior leadership responsibility and quality improvement projects is also required. Completion of the clinical assessment course and NMP training is mandatory; depending on interest, this post may be offered as a trainee ANP opportunity via Annex 21.

Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration and provide evidence of continuing professional development.
