Research Associate in Participatory Urban Analytics
Join the University of Glasgow’s Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) as a Research Associate to contribute to the Wellcome Trust‑funded project “Participatory Analytics for Climate‑Health Adaptation in Disadvantaged Urban Communities in Brazil (PACHA).” The role involves developing mixed‑methods participatory analytics that integrate climate and health data, intersectional multi‑level vulnerability analysis, and participatory action research to inform equitable adaptation strategies in Brazil and Latin America.
Responsibilities- Lead the planning and conduct of research activities and data service activities within the project.
- Write up research findings for publication in leading journals and produce progress reports.
- Establish a research profile, maintain records, and contribute to the University’s research impact.
- Survey the research literature, develop a suitable strategy, and present work at conferences and workshops.
- Identify and secure funding sources, develop proposals, and coordinate collaborations across the project and wider community.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate, postgraduate, and less experienced project team members.
- Contribute to teaching, training, and associated administrative duties as assigned.
- PhD (or equivalent) in geospatial data science, urban studies, public health, or related field, with a track record of emerging independence.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current issues and future directions within relevant research disciplines.
- Well‑developed working knowledge of research methods, technical models, equipment, and techniques relevant to the project.
- Ability to communicate specialist material effectively (oral and written).
Proficiency in Portuguese is a plus. - Experience in planning and progressing research activities, securing research funding, and supporting career development of colleagues.
- Commitment to open research practices, including open data, open code, and open educational resources.
- Knowledge of community engagement or participatory research methods, including participatory open mapping, citizen science, and participatory action research.
- Knowledge of specialist data‑driven citizen science and participatory mapping tools (e.g., Open Street Map , KOBOToolBox).
- Knowledge of user‑centred participatory design and agile project management methods.
- Experience with user‑centred software co‑design or participatory research with urban disadvantaged communities.
